Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
