Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved four early break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
